Community Information
This page is always updating as new things happen in the area.
The church owns a separate building that is used as the church office. Luther Haus is 30 yards above the church, it is separated by a home. Inside there is the secretary's office, the pastor's office, Sunday school rooms and a library, also the local Boy Scout hall, and an apartment on the top floor.
Our parsonage is in the opposite direction about 150 yards up the street. The pastor can literally walk to work and greet the community residents as he passes.
We have the best bakery across the street from the church- Landis Bakery. They supply our communion bread as well as other yummy treats for various meals throughout the year. There is a supermarket in town, Berlin Market. For more delicious food you can go to the Cup O' Soul Café, Coalfield's Diner, Chill Out, Fox's Pizza, East End Grill, or The Diamond. New in 2024 Berlin has gotten it's first food truck Fired Up and Co. Also in the summer we have The Train Station for local ice cream treats and new as of June 2024 The Lazy Lizard another ice cream stop with several flavors of ice cream and over 40 toppings to put on them. Another local business is Bingman Meat Packing for meat and cheese deli items as well as butchered items.
The area is rural, we are surrounded by farmland, some of our members are farmers. Great people! However, we also are a great hub for traveling to not so distant metro areas such as Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. to name a few.
Pittsburgh is the closest city about an 1 hour up the turnpike, well maybe 1 1/2. If you are not a Steelers, Penguins, and or Pirates fan, we might try to convert you!
If you enjoy outdoor activities there is an abundance of opportunities in the area. Hunting and fishing are never a problem around here. There are numerous state parks and game lands. There are 2 ski resorts within a short distance, Seven Springs and Hidden Valley.
If you like to ride bicycles the Great Allegheny Passage is 15 minutes away. Some of the greatest scenery you will ever see. Most people see wild animals during the ride. It is a very easy trail to ride. We have had a few group rides in the past.
